Happy New Year

I’m deep into writing a book for Price Stern Sloan for a new line of kidgoth items that will be sold at Hot Topic. I’m not sure how much I can say about it at the moment, but I’m having a wonderful time.

My daughter and I went to the Festival of Lights at the San Diego Wild Animal Park with our good friends Linda the Mom and Sarah, who is nine. The girls are reading like crazy–glad tidings indeed. While we rode the tram (twice!) and wandered around admiring the hundreds of lighting displays, the two girls discussed the highs and lows of their literary years. They were very free with their opinions–Lemony Snicket, genius or repeater guy? What great joy, for a writer to hear her twice-published child holding forth on her peers, to her peer…

Please keep January 10 at 7 PM on your calendars, when Belle and I will sign at the Mission Valley Borders in San Diego.

Season’s Greetings!

It’s midnight in San Diego on Christmas Eve.  I hope everyone who reads this post experiences a wonderful rebirth of hope and joy.  I think I hear some jingle bells, so I’d better shut down now…

Business and pleasure

On a deadline, going to a party. Other freelancers will feel my schizophrenia.

Tomorrow is the booksigning with Belle. Mysterious Galaxy, 2 PM, see above.

Yesterday we passed out flyers about it at Belle’s school. I spent some of my formative years in Japan where tooting one’s own horn just is not done. As I shriveled in embarrassment at this blatant self-promotion, one of the other moms said, “Look how excited and proud she is.” After blustering an apology to her teacher when she galloped over to him and thrust one in his hand, he said, “Oh, I go to my students’ activities. I’ve been to baseball games, football games. If I can manage it, I’ll be there.” Did I mention lately that this man rocks?

So I printed out some more flyers, to take to the party tonight. I’m not going because it will be fun. I’m on a deadline, so that would be very wrong.

I’m only going to make sure everyone there knows about Belle’s booksigning.
